CVBL: Phoenix All Over LA Lakers
A great Phoenix team and a mediocre LA Lakers team met today, the result being an expected 103-78 drubbing. Phoenix took control from the outset, never appearing troubled in the least. Said Phoenix coach Bob, "We've got a good group of players this year, and they pulled off the win just like we drew it up. Frankly LA Lakers isn't exactly tough opposition, but it was still nice to come out with the big win."
LA Lakers coach Andreas Helmle seemed resigned to the loss even before the game, saying "We're just hoping to keep them from running away with it and not look bad. Even that will take a bit of luck; we just don't match up with these guys."
Phoenix was led by Dupree (22 points, 16 boards, 1 assists), Celaya (19 points, 6 boards, 1 assists, 4 steals, 2 blocks), Hughes (8 points, 3 steals). LA Lakers was led by Deshazier (21 points, 1 assists, a steal), Burdette (14 points, 1 assists, a block), Gavagan (10 points, 7 boards, 1 assists, 2 blocks).
Phoenix improve to 3-0 and 3-0 at home with the victory. They remain at #2 in the Pacific and improve to #5 overall in the Western Conference. LA Lakers stand at 0-2 with this defeat. They hold at #5 in the Pacific and fall to #14 overall in the Western Conference.
